Where did 2010 go??? December 30, 2010

Alright, I know that I am not the first or only person to marvel at the date, but seriously, where did the rest of the year go???

I hope you all had a wonder holiday season, whatever you may be celebrating. Our last month and a half was incredibly busy with school obligations, kids activities, regular family stuff, and work, always work. 🙂 The last quarter is always very busy at my job so now that we have passed Christmas I am taking a couple of much needed days off.

This last week gave me the chance to see my best friend since Jr High, who currently lives in Hawaii. We rarely see each other so it was great to get an evening to go for coffee (well a Chai for me; I don’t like the taste of coffee). Tonight we are having a bit of a reunion with a couple of our other girlfriends from school who are in town…I’m so excited to see them!

I also celebrated my birthday, amazing my kids at how old I am now (a whopping 34 years old). My 3 year old then told me, “then you’ll be 84, then 94…” hmmm, there are days I feel like that. 🙂

On the crafting front, I haven’t abandoned it entirely. I kind of hit a wall in October, and had a hard time coming up with many things. I have a couple of videos over on YouTube though. The worst thing was that I couldn’t get my butt in gear to make my Christmas cards. I really tried, honestly! And then I finally got some done, but not in time to fill them out, address them and mail them before Christmas. Sigh. Well, I guess I have a great jump on 2011? I think we are going to send out New Years cards instead. Whether they will be handmade is quite another story. 🙂

Speaking of 2011, I need to challenge myself. My best friend and I were both lamenting how behind we are on scrapbooking (and other crafts for me too). So we are going to set goals for ourselves and check in on each other to make sure we are working on them. One of my yearly goals is to complete 100 scrapbook pages, which works out to about 8 pages a month. Doable I think. A more immediate goal though is to challenge muself to create something every day in January. It doesn’t have to be a page, but maybe a card, or a mini album completed in a few days, or crochet an amigirumi animal…as long as I dedicate some time each day to creating. At first I thought that I would post a video daily, but that’s a bit too ambitious with my schedule and the time it takes to post Flip videos (love mine but its irritating that it needs so much reformatting. Instead, I’ll take photos each day and post them here, and maybe at the end of each week I can make a video recap of what I worked on.

So anyway…a bit more rambling about what’s been happening and what I’d like to accomplish. Let’s see how it goes! I also want to wish you and yours a very Happy New Year, full of happiness, peace and creativity!

My daughter, during a creative dress up moment today. 😉

Let It Snow card October 19, 2010

I love having a day off! Granted, after this weekend, working 29 out of 48 hours, I needed this day off. lol So, while my daughter watched “The Backyardigans” I made this card.

The idea came from the Sept/Oct/Nov issue of Take Ten magazine. I don’t buy it as often I would like, but when I do I find lots of inspiration. The layout was inspired by AJ Otto’s card on page 32.

I used Marina Mist and Naturals White cardstock from Stampin’ Up, cutting a standard size card and a mat cut to 4 1/2 x 3 1/4. I then stamped a piece of Marina Mist with snowflakes from the “Frosties” stamp set by Lawn Fawn. It is such a cute set, and you get so many different snowflakes! I chose 5 of them to create the pattern. I then embossed with white powder and lightly brushed Frost White shimmer paint over them before attaching them to the white mat. I used my Mat Pack from Stampin Up to poke some holes at the bottom before stamping the sentiment (from Frosties) with Marina Mist. I then tied some silver ribbon around the mat and attached it to the card with some dimensional adhesive.

Quick and simple! Hope you enjoy it!

I am a paper addict. I love patterned paper. I’ll go to a scrapbook store and find sheets and sheets of paper that I simply have to have…then it goes into my expandable file, and often sits there for years. So I am on a paper ban…until I use some of the paper that has collected over the years I can’t buy more than one sheet of paper for a project I am currently working on.

On top of that I decided to play a bit of a game. I took my expandable file, closed my eyes and grabbed a random piece of paper. That paper had to be used for something like a card or scrapbook page. That paper also led to my choice of stamps, embellishments and other colors. Here is the card that came out of this game. I really liked how it turned out, hope you do too! 🙂

I made this card last week…it’s been a bit crazy so I haven’t had a chance to post it till now. Practising more Copic coloring…and finding that coloring black hair is challenging. It’s so easy to make it look like gray hair instead of black. Not a big deal though, we’re just doing this for fun, right? 🙂

Anyway, enjoy the video! 🙂

Did someone get the license plate of that truck? October 8, 2010

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I feel horrible. Yesterday afternoon I was hit by some kind of bug…stomach flu maybe? Worst part was that I was still at work, so I needed to find a bathroom with some amount of privacy. Hard to do, but I basically rotated bathrooms as people left at the end of the day.

Needless to say, I don’t feel much better today. It takes a lot for me to get sick, and even if I do I usually can handle it. Stomach bugs? Not so much. I just hope this passes quickly.

On a more hopeful note, I have a few ideas for cards floating around. Hopefully I can pull a few together this weekend. I’m tired of having all of these ideas but when I actually sit at my table I can’t come up with anything. Very frustrating.

And it’s a gorgeous day. Absolutely spectacular…sunny, low 70’s…and it’s October! The rest of the weekend is supposed to be similar, fine by me!

New Video! October 4, 2010

I posted a video last night with a couple of the projects I have been working on…sharing it here also. I hope you enjoy! 🙂

I just got 6 new Copics today…4 of the Cool Grays and 2 Reds. Can’t wait to play with them and try some black hair shading. They will be perfect for the SheDevil digi stamp mentioned in the video.

Happy crafting!

It’s a grey, drizzly October day…could there be a better day to spend inside making cards??? I have a pot of chili on the stove, the guys are watching college football, and I have lots of cards to make. The only downside to this weather is that the kids have to play inside and are experiencing a touch of cabin fever. Sigh. Ah well.

Here is a card I completed today…its from my first download of Anya digi stamps. Its called Cupcake Anya. I colored her with Copics and layered her over an oval piece embossed with Stampin Ups Petals a Plenty folder. The patterened paper is from my paper stash and I have no idea how long I’ve had it. 🙂 Perfect time to pull it out! The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn’s set, Sophies Sentiments, which is so cute!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and take some time to make a card today!
